Have you changed your Username on WordPress?

Your default Username is always set to Admin in your control panel on your WordPress Blog. Upon setting up your website and blog on WordPress the system automatically chooses “Admin” as your default username or often times also referred to as “Nickname” on your wordpress administrative panel so any time you post a new blog post your name will appear as Admin instead of your website name or first and last name.

Reasons to change your WordPress Username otherwise known as your WordPress Nickname:

It helps further prevent hackers from hacking into your WordPress website. Studies show that changing your Administrative name can reduce hacking success by over 50%.

It helps to create better backlinks and white hat SEO for your website. When you comment and like with a targeted user name coming from your wordpress website or wordpress blog you are constantly increasing your SEO rankings organically. The more you do this the more you are improving your SEO rankings on Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

What should you change your Username / Nickname to on WordPress?

Your Brand’s name


Your First Name and Last Name

So how do you change your WordPress Username?

Step 1

Create a new username

Step 2

Assign the new username a role of administrator.

Step 3

Log out of WordPress and Log back in as the new username that you have just created

Step 4

Delete the administrative username.

Step 5

Release all previously written and posted content to your new username.

Step 6

Confirm the deletion of the Admin username

Step 7

Step 1

Log in to you or your clients WordPress site.

Step 2

In your dashboard you will see the tab Users on the left hand side.

Click Users, and then click on all Users or My Profile.



Step 3

Scroll down to Nickname and type in the Nickname that you want the world to know you as. If you have branded yourself, use the brand name that you identify as, as this will help you with your SEO Rankings as Back Links.


Step 4

In The Display name publicly as section you should now see your brand name listed. Choose that option again for additional White Hat SEO purposes and Backlinking.


Step 5

Feel free to add your own URL whether it be your website or blog – wherever you want readers to be directed to. My clients have no issue with this at all because, while yes they are paying me to post for them if anyone comes to me to write through their website they get revenue out of it when I get paid by the new client. It’s truly a win win situation for everyone.

Add Social Links and your Bio information

Click Update Profile

You’re Done.

Changing your Username and or, Nickname on WordPress is really a very easy task and only takes a few minutes of your time to complete while the rewards are extremely beneficial when it comes to the additional SEO and traffic that you will receive.
